How to use imatinib mesylate
Follow your doctor's instructions to take this medicine by mouth with a meal and a full glass of water (8 ounces/240 ml), usually once or twice a day. Do not crush the pills. If you have difficulty swallowing the entire tablet, you can dissolve the tablet in a glass of water or apple juice. The amount of liquid depends on your dose. For more detailed instructions, please consult your doctor or pharmacist. Stir the mixture well until the tablets dissolve, then drink immediately.
The dosage depends on your health, response to treatment, and other medications you may be taking. Be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, and herbal products). For children, the dosage also depends on their size.
Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while using this medication unless your doctor or pharmacist says you can do it safely. Grapefruit will increase the chance of side effects of this drug. Please consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.
Do not increase the dose or use this medication more frequently or for longer than the prescribed time. Your condition will not improve faster, and your risk of side effects will increase.
Because this drug can be absorbed through the skin and lungs and may harm an unborn baby, women who are pregnant or who may become pregnant should not come into contact with this drug or inhale dust from the tablets.
