What is Jardiance?

Jardiance (empagliflozin) is an oral diabetes medication that helps control blood sugar levels. Empagliflozin's role is to help the kidneys clear glucose from the blood. Jardiance combined with diet and exercise can improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes.

Jardiance (empagliflozin) is an inhibitor of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) and can be used as an aid to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes. Jardiance can also reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Description

JARDIANCE tablets contain Eglitazone, an oral active inhibitor of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2).

The chemical name of Ipagliflozin is D-glucitol, 1,5-anhydro-1-C- [4-chloro-3-[[4-[[((3S) -tetrahydro-3furyl] oxy] Phenyl] methyl] phenyl]-, (1S).

Indications

JARDIANCE is indicated:

As an aid to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes,
To reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes and diagnosed cardiovascular disease.

Use restrictions

JARDIANCE is not recommended for patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Dosage and administration

Recommended dose

The recommended JARDIANCE dosage is once a day, once a day, 10 mg each time, with or without food. In patients who are tolerant to JARDIANCE, the dose can be increased to 25 mg.

For patients with physical exhaustion, it is recommended to correct this situation before starting JARDIANCE

Formulations and advantages

The JARDIANCE tablet can be used as:


  • 10 mg light yellow, round, biconvex and cut-edge film-coated tablets with "S 10" engraved on one side and the Boehringer Ingelheim logo on the other side.
  • 25 mg light yellow, oval, biconvex, film-coated tablet with "S 25" engraved on one side and Boehringer Ingelheim logo on the other.


Storage and handling

The strength of JARDIANCE tablets is 10 mg and 25 mg, as follows:

10 mg tablets: light yellow, round, biconvex and beveled, film-coated tablets with "S 10" recessed on one side and the Boehringer Ingelheim logo on the other side.


Side effect

The following and other adverse reactions are described below and elsewhere on the label:


  • Hypotension 
  • Ketoacidosis 
  • Acute kidney injury and kidney function damage
  • Uremic and pyelonephritis
  • Hypoglycemia is used with insulin and insulin secretagogues 
  • Perineal necrotizing fasciitis
  • Genital fungal infections
  • Allergic reactions
  • Increased low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C)
